About University Institute of Technology

On September 15, 1998 Burdwan University Executive Council resolved to set up an engineering institute at the university campus under the direct control and management of the University of Burdwan, named, University Institute of Technology. On September 16, 1999 Burdwan University Court approved the resolution. As per provisions of the Burdwan University Act under section 2 sub-section 16 & 17 the institute enjoys the status of a Professional College run and managed by the university. Sri Buddhadeb Bhattacharyya, then Chief Minister, Government of West Bengal, inaugurated the UIT building on September 4, 2001. With the approval of Govt of West Bengal and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), three graduate engineering courses, viz. , Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology were introduced from the academic year 2000-01. Applied Electronics & Instrumentation was introduced from the academic year 2003-04. Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering have been introduced from the academic year 2008-09. From academic year 2013-14 two PG courses viz. ME (EIE) and ME (CSE) under the department of ECE and CSE respectively. UIT is a National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accredited institute and recommended for TEQIP phase-II grant. Currently the institute has a student strength of 1600+.

Campus Location:

The institute is situated in Golapbag (North), Burdwan and the campus has a lush green environment spanning on around 50 acres of land. The institute is located at about 100 km north-west of Kolkata, on the southern side of Grand Trunk Road. The nearest airport is in Kolkata, about one and a half hours drive through NH2. The campus is a part of University of Burdwan’s campus. The hostels are: New and Old Banabas Boys’ Hostel (for first year students), Prof. S. N. Bose Boys’ Hostel, A. J. C. Bose Boys’ Hostel, Madam Curie Girls’ Hostel.

Cultural and Technical Fest:

UIT conducts its cultural fest "WALTZ" and conducts its technical fest.

Extra Curricular Activities:

Institute has its NSS unit and REC Club (Renewable Energy Club) through which students do many extra curricular activities. Very recently a photographic club has been opened to promote and enrich photographic skills among interested individuals.

To create an institution for higher technical education, dedicated to the cause of developing professional with high sense of ethical values and commitment to the society, where students shall realize their potentials and learn to be future torch bearers of evolving technologies, through inculcation of proper attitude, appropriation of traditions and heritage, and fostering of originality, so as to be capable of functioning without being influenced by malice of caste, creed, political and religious dogmas.
